  • Completely self-contained, the Soundbox has a built in speaker and will allow modelers to enjoy an “In-Cab” experience while operating their favorite trains, for use on non-DCC layouts.
  • Six function buttons give you control over specially picked prototype-recorded sounds, from horns to bells to dynamic brakes and coupler clanks. (Sound cards are sold separately. See cards.)
  • Smart Back-EMF reading - The sound box doesn't just make noise - it will read the strain on the motor in your engines and know how fast they're moving and how hard they're working. Certain sound schemes (like steam where the chuff is directly linked to the visual movement of the side rods) will self-adjust the sound based on the speed of the locomotive so what you hear will match what you see, all without the need for DCC.
  • Sound plays from the built-in speaker or can be routed through a stereo-out jack to external speakers or headphones.

  • Additional Sound Box information:
    • Additional diesel, steam, and electric train sound sets to be made available (sold separately) that will allow you to bring nearly any sounds that you desire to your non-DCC layout.
    • ASB will plug onto the side of a Kato Power pack or can be powered externally, making it compatible with non-Kato Powered layouts.
    • The ASB is designed with future expansion in mind – Bluetooth and microphone capability are both built into the box (more details to come)
    • The ASB is a pass-through for your power pack and as such can power multiple locomotives; however it will only mount one sound container at a time.
    • For non Kato DC power packs use the following Kato wire adapters:
    • 24-842 DC Converter Unitrack (HO/N Scale)
    • 24-843 Terminal Adapter Cord, 35" Unitrack (HO/N Scale)
