The Electric Locomotive EH200 is a prototype that made its debut in 2001. The locomotive was designed to succeed the EF64 model. The EH200 model is the second version of the two-body combined H-Class (with an 8 axle drive). It is a new electric locomotive for JR Freight, following the EH500, that is as powerful as double connected EF64. Because it is very fast with a very large body (measuring 25 meters in length), the locomotive is nicknamed "Blue Thunder." The EH200 is planned for use on the Shin-etsu, Chuo, and Jo-etsu mainlines, where the EF64 was originally operated.
