Series 285 "Sunrise Express" is an Express Sleeper Electric Train, jointly developed in 1998 by JR Tokai and JR West Japan. It is operated in 14 car configuration between Tokyo and Okayama, corresponding to combination of "Sunrise Izumo" 7 car configuration (operated between Tokyo and Izumo) and "Sunrise Seto" 7 car configuration (operated between Tokyo and Takamatsu).

The seven (7) car "Sunrise Express" set is an exquisite and attractive bi-level train. With its unique shape and design it truly attracts a lot of attention. Its understated two tone paint scheme is very sophisticated and elegant. The subtle and complementary colors give the cars a very smooth and warm look. The cars sport very original and unusual cab window designs that create a smooth and clean roofline, and add to the classy and sophisticated feel of the train.
