• Electric Locomotive EF65-1000 was introduced in 1969 as a high-speed electric locomotive capable to pull long sleeper train or freight train, and was deployed widely in flat areas electrified with AC power throughout Japan.
• Different from EF56-0 or EF65-500, it has a characteristic front side equipped with a door to go through, prepared for operation using plural locomotives. Equipment against cold weather and snow is improved in consideration of winter operation on Tohoku, Joetsu and Shinetsu lines in Northern parts of Japan.
• A total of 139 locomotives were manufactured. Depending on the manufacturing years, specifications, they vary in such respects as shape of pantograph, number board, taillight and as whether or not they have loopholes on the front.
• The locomotive is still operated in many regions.
