The Series 883 Sonic 883 is JR Kyushu train newly produced and operated in replacement for its predecessor series 485 on the Nippo mainlines in Kyushu, Japan. It made its debut in 1995. It features a bold stainless steel exterior painted in metallic blue with spacious and splendid interiors.

In respect to function, it is the first train in the JR Kyushu fleet to employ the pendulum system, enabling it to swiftly run the many curves of the Nippo mainline and travel the distance between Hakata and Oita in about 2 hours. Since its debut, the Series 883 Sonic 883 has been modified 4 times. The most recent modification has, as its features, 3 colors -- yellow, silver and dark blue -- on the face of the pilot cars and it is operated in a 5-car configuration.
