This particular JR Freight locomotive was first manufactured in 2000. It succeeded the EF210-0 with modifications to the braking unit and various other equipment. Several changes were also made in the outward appearance of the locomotive. The EF210-100 was newly equipped with a large air filter on both body sides, while the "ECO POWER" with a Japanese character meaning "Mighty boy" logo was enhanced and shifted to the center of the locomotive's flanks.
